On Friday, April 14, 1944, 76 years ago...
Roosevelt's funeral train arrives in Washington, DC President Roosevelt's funeral train arrives at Washington Union Station at 9:50 am. The train was pulled by double-headed sets of Southern's famous green Ps-4's, including 1401, which is currently housed at the Smithsonian. It was mostly a slow procession at 20-25 mph, slowing to 10 mph at every hamlet and stopping briefly at larger towns so that the people who lined the track over the complete distance could view the train.
